Chucksphere Anniversary IV: A New Hope

February 14th, 2010 Chuck.P No comments

Just kidding. There is no hope here. The demands of college have pretty much determined that the most content I’ll be able to produce for any of the Chucksphere projects is the occasional emo rant or an extremely belated May Day Mystery post (I’m still working on December’s). However, I spruced up the blog by putting it on the front page, then spruced it up again by changing the pallete to something not retarded. The content, though, is still up to its usual level “inspiration.” Let’s take a look at how the Projects faired this year:

Chuck’s World O’ Wargames: LOL. Why do I still have this?

Small Island Nation: Moved to on-site Wiki, which was spam-botted into oblivion. No movement made since August.

The Wildcat Code: Hard to keep up with, due to the demands of college. Still haven’t gotten the December ad finished.

One bright spot: I now have a forum where I can voice my foreign policy opinions. I wrote a peice for the Roosevelt Institutue which made it to the front page, and there are many more to come.

Fuck This Shit, vol II

Spambots and Hot Bleach II

August 9th, 2009 Chuck.P No comments

I have returned from the Decemberists concert in Indianapolis, and am working diligently to restore as much of The Small Island Nation website as I can. Those damn dirty spambots wrote over the wiki version so many times they maxed-out the memory alloted to P.M. Wiki and killed it. This means I am unable to recover anything from the wreckage, so I nuked it. The only remaining vestiges of S.I.N. are on Bluwiki, and this represents perhaps 50% of the material I lost. To save that material from destruction, I’m creating a group of static pages for it. This will serve as a stop-gap until I can figure out how I want to proceed.

[EDIT 6:40pm - I found the Evolver theme that I thought was so neat in an HTML version courtasy of OSWD via GLIntercept.]

Fuck Spambots with a Hot Bleach Enema

August 8th, 2009 Chuck.P No comments

So, I decided to check up on my neglected Small Island Nation wiki this morning, only to find that some spambot had deleted the contents of the main page and replaced it with links to porn. And, when I go to revert the damage, the database has written over the “real” page. Now, I need to re-do the entire wiki from the originals I have stored here. And I somehow need to disable editing for the wiki…

[EDIT 10:44 - PM Wiki is unable to let me edit it at all. So, I nuked it. I haven't the foggiest what I'm going to replace it with, but it's done for now. Spammers usually clutter things up, but in this case, they went truely over the line when the DESTROYED CONTENT. Fuckers.]

Newer Site Design

July 27th, 2009 Chuck.P No comments

Well, I finally came to grips with the fact that this site looks like complete and irredeamable ass. Therefore, while I figure out how to fix my old theme, I’m using this (verfiably non-assy) one as a temporary replacement. It’s called Inove. Enjoy.

The Chucksphere Blog Archive

July 13th, 2009 Chuck.P No comments

As I may have mentioned before, the older version of WordPress I have installed on this server is playing havok with the new version I installed to be my new blog. The only sensible solution was to delete the old blog, but I didn’t want to lose the accumulated pellets of wisdom that I occasionally dropped there*. So, over the course of many months (from the launching of this blog until a few weeks ago) I converted not only Chuck-ese, but every blog I have ever maintained, into static HTML and put it all in one place: The Chucksphere Blog Archive. Launch was delayed because I was too lazy to figure out a simple bug stemming from the fact that the server flips out over differing capitalizations.

*As my good friend Steven said at the time: “Really, what is there to lose?” This is why he is no longer in the will.

For convenience’s sake, I have also copied my gaming articles to this page in Chuck’s World O’ Wargames and all of my May Day Mystery news to the Updates page at The Wildcat Code.

Non-Update

I’ve never missed a month of blogging, and I refuse to start now. I’ve got nothing to say, exactly, as I’ve been busy doing stuff. The Chucksphere Blog Archives are up and almost functioning, and my May Day Mystery analysis is almost up (after 2 months!).

Small Island Success Story

May 12th, 2009 Chuck.P No comments

I installed PmWiki this morning, and migrated The Small Island Nation Wiki over to it. You can find it here.
There isn’t much to it, but it may be expanded later.

[EDIT: This success is somewhat mitigated. While attempting to update the redirect page to the new wiki I inadvertently broke all of them.]

[EDIT2: I sort of fixed the problem.]

Burning the Dead Wood

April 26th, 2009 Chuck.P No comments

Well, having two Word Press blogs operating under the same domain is causing some weird things to happen vis-a-vis accessing the content for the older one. So, I’m copying all of the old Chuckese and making a static archive of it. It won’t be searchable, but neither is the one now. Formatting will take time, but it may be done by the time I’m out of school for the summer.

New Site Design!

April 5th, 2009 Chuck.P No comments

In my lifelong quest to provide the maximum media with the minimum message, I’ve moved my blog onto the front page, which wasn’t really doing anything other than being blue. Now, it’s host to a rarely-updated blog.

I suppose this makes my far-flung website more “unified” and all, but don’t expect anything more than what you’re allready getting.

Also, it looks like shit. I heavily modified the “Sandbox” theme, and a bunch of the layout I had planned for this site rather went down the drain. Until I’m proficient enough to untagle this mess, it’ll be a mess. Why didn’t I hold off on this until I figured this shit out? Because I’m sick goddammit, and I can’t be arsed to do actual work when I’m sick, so I devoted my day to this instead.

In short: stop going to Chuckese for your semi-monthly drivel, come here.
