Book Quotes
I wanted to start this blog off with a better post, but due to Google Pages’s inability to cooperate with me, this is how it has to be. In an idea stolen from Ryan Clark Holiday’s blog, I’ve decided to share with you quotes from recently-read books that I find insightful, or poetic, or funny.
Though not a Lord of the Rings fan, I enjoyed getting this reference in Terry Pratchet’s Going Postal: “‘It’s still not working, Mr. Stibbons!’ he bellowed. ‘Here’s that damn enormous fiery eye again!’” (p368)
I can’t seem to find a really good quote I remember from Neal Stephenson’s Quicksilver. Just read the whole book, it will do you good.
“The girl’s homely face turned suddely beautiful. Happiness is beautiful, all by itself.” (The Long ARM of Gil Hamilton, by Larry Niven. p 31)
And three from The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins:
“Demonstrators were photographed in Britain bearing banners saying…apparently without irony, ‘Behead those who say Islam is a violent religion’.” (p 25)
“The reasoning that underlies ‘intelligent design’ theory is lazy and defeatist…” (p 128) (Read the entire, paragraph. It’s all good)
“What is it with cheese?…What is the semiotic iconography of cheese?” (p 212)
Also, sample “Love They Neighbor” (p 254-62)
Hell, just read the whole book.
