T. Boone Pickens is a Genius

Proof.

If he weren’t 80, I’d say he ought to be the Energy Secretary. Aw hell, Pickens for Energy Czar!

Election Night Update

My biggest fear has reverted to “becoming mentally retarded.”

I was watching the election on CNN in the Michigan Union. When Ohio went blue, my fellow spectators erupted into cheers. It was an amazing feeling when the map-guy for CNN was unable to construct any possible victory scenario for McCain after this. When 11:00 rolled around and the polls closed in California, CNN immediately called it for Obama, the crowd went wild, etc.

As part of my participation in the University of Michigan College Democrats Student Issues Committee, I helped put this together. You can find the draft versions on this server if you know where to look

My Biggest Fear

Of all the eves in the calendar, Election Day Eve is, by far, the most exciting. I hope dearly that Obama wins tomorrow, but I am afraid that he will not. Electoral-vote.com has Obama up 353 to 185, yet only 238 are in the “Strong Democrat” column. In the remaining states, he is less than 10% ahead of McCain. What with all of the voter-suppression fraud that can be expected to come from the right, I can easily see that 10% vanish into whatever pit the election officials decide to relegate it to. I want Obama to win, I think the odds are good that he will, but I won’t be able to rest easy until I see that he’s sealed the deal. I’ve been poring over election sites obsessively in the past weeks, looking for any shift that would put the majority of the country firmly and undeniably in the Democratic camp, and the only solace I’ve found is at 270towin.com, which gives Obama an unambiguous 286 even with a great many states as toss-up.

Is this really what this country has come to, when its citizens think that electoral fraud will be this rampant and contradictory to all indications?

I will stay strong and keep high hopes, or try.

Election sites I read:
270 to win
Electoral-Vote.com
Election Projection
Intrade
FiveThirtyEight
